How we handle mistakes

Accuracy is a continuing responsibility. When we confirm that published work contains a material error, we correct it promptly and explain the change clearly.

• Minor spelling, grammar, or formatting fixes may be made without a note when meaning is unchanged.
• Factual errors receive a visible correction describing what was wrong and what is correct.
• Developing stories may receive timestamped updates as verified information changes.

Where corrections appear

A correction or clarification is placed with the article so readers encounter it in the same context as the original claim. Significant corrections may also be noted on relevant social posts or newsletters when practical.

• At the top or bottom of the article, depending on significance.
• With an updated timestamp when the revision is substantial.
• In metadata or structured data when the corrected fact affects it.

Requesting a correction

Readers, sources, and subjects may request a review. A useful request identifies the article, the disputed statement, the reason it is inaccurate or incomplete, and supporting documentation.

• Include the article URL.
• Quote the exact passage at issue.
• Provide records or on-the-record evidence when available.
• Include contact details so an editor can follow up.

Transparency and accountability

We do not remove accurate information simply because it is inconvenient, and we do not silently rewrite material facts. If an error changes the central meaning of a story, editors review the full article and any connected coverage.

• Corrections are written in direct language.
• Clarifications explain ambiguity without suggesting a factual error occurred.
• Editor's notes are used for broader context, methodology, or major updates.

Why this matters

A correction is not a failure of journalism; hiding one is. A visible record of responsible revision helps readers judge our work and helps the newsroom improve.
